Hey Stranger Nation!

This weeks book review is a book by Mark Lawrence called “Prince of Thorns”. It is the first book of the trilogy “The Broken Empire”. I have to say that Mark is absolutely brilliant, but first lets read the book description from .

Before the thorns taught me their sharp lessons and bled weakness from me I had but one brother, and I loved him well. But those days are gone and what is left of them lies in my mother’s tomb. Now I have many brothers, quick with knife and sword, and as evil as you please. We ride this broken empire and loot its corpse. They say these are violent times, the end of days when the dead roam and monsters haunt the night. All that’s true enough, but there’s something worse out there, in the dark. Much worse.

From being a privileged royal child, raised by a loving mother, Jorg Ancrath has become the Prince of Thorns, a charming, immoral boy leading a grim band of outlaws in a series of raids and atrocities. The world is in chaos: violence is rife, nightmares everywhere. Jorg has the ability to master the living and the dead, but there is still one thing that puts a chill in him. Returning to his father’s castle Jorg must confront horrors from his childhood and carve himself a future with all hands turned against him.

Mark Lawrence’s debut novel tells a tale of blood and treachery, magic and brotherhood and paints a compelling and brutal, and sometimes beautiful, picture of an exceptional boy on his journey toward manhood and the throne.

This book certainly baffled me in almost every possible way. For the record, I did not read the book description before hand, and thus blowing my mind into little particles of my so called brain even more. After the first few chapters I was thinking to myself (because I have no one to talk to when reading of course) what the flying monkey am I reading. Prince Jorg a psychopath, murderer, rapist and more, but I am still left rooting for this guy to succeed in his treacherous bloody road. I love him, I hate him, I want to be his friend, and I want to kill him all at the same time! The author has done an extremely great job at developing the main character in this book. Not only did he do a good job at doing just that, but the book is also complex and structurally written in a genius way. The author often puts a small paragraph in between chapters that are either funny, completely random, or that describe the secondary characters personality further which I loved.  This bloodthirsty book was funny, sad, adrenaline pumping and intriguing in every way. I definitely recommend it to anyone of proper age for reading. You will not be disappointed. I will have to give this review a 4 1/2 stars!

Thank You awesome Strangers for Reading!
